Mercado Ver-o-peso (Ver-o-peso Market) is the largest outdoor market in Latin America that mixes cuisine, culture and people from the state of Pará (North of Brazil).

You can find hundreds of stalls selling fish, medicinal herbs, sweets, handicrafts and much more. Be sure to taste the exotic fruits from the Amazon and local food such as: fried pescada amarela (acoupa weakfish) with açaí cream (also consumed at the breakfast) and maniçoba (Indigenous cuisine origin, it is made with leaves of the manioc plant that have been finely ground and boiled for a week).

All the Mercado Ver-o-Peso has been declared national patrimony and it complex embraces Boulevard Castilhos França, Mercado de Carne (Steak Market) and Mercado de Ferro (Iron Market), which has French art nouveau tendency, as well as colonial houses, Praça do Relógio (Clock Square) and Praça Dom Pedro II (Dom Pedro II Square), boat dock, Feira do Açaí (Açaí Fair) and Ladeira do Castelo (the first street formed in the city of Belém).
