Markets on the center of the city
Markets are large to give opportunity to know and try the culture of Sergipe. At Antônio Franco you can buy handicrafts from all corners of Sergipe, besides savoring typical food in several restaurants. At Thales Ferraz you find typical herbs and food, like nuts, beijus and sweeties.
The Sergipe Memorial is divided into thirteen rooms, plus the Rosa Moreira Faria Auditorium. The collection includes more than 10,000 pieces like animal and plant fossils, and many items of local literature, history and folklore, depicting several traits of the cultural and artistic history of Sergipe.
The Imperador Bridge is one of the main tourism sites in Aracaju. The bridge was built in colonial style and has great historical importance to the city, having been inaugurated in 1860, the year that Emperor Dom Pedro II and Empress Teresa Cristina visited the province.
Among the specialties of the Sergipe cuisine the dishes based on seafood, especially varied species of crab. Coconut is another ingredient largely used in Sergipe cuisine, and also appears in the local variety of cheesecake.
This beach attracts many fishermen and surfers. Its success among surfers and its strong waves have led to it being given the nickname Havaizinho (Little Hawai). It is well developed, with plenty of bars and restaurants by the beach.
If you like excitement, the Atalaia beach is the central point of Aracaju. The busy sidewalk crowded with bars and restaurants, is a meeting point day and night. If you like sports, you can also enjoy the bike lane or the jogging track to fit while admiring the landscape.
Here nature is priority. With preserved mangroves and clean waters, it is the ideal site to enjoy a sunny day, or take a catamaran ride to the small islands and the historic city ofSão Cristóvão. To end the day, the spectacle is the meeting of the sea with theVazaBarrisRiver, and the amazing sunset.
South Coast Beaches
You have several options of beaches on the south coast. TheSacoBeachhas a wonderful bay with coconut trees and blue-green sea, perfect for relaxing and tasting local appetizers. Other options are the Náufragos of dark sand dunes, Abaís and the great freshwater lagoon on the seafront, or the crowded Caueiras.
Also known as Little Hawaii, this beach may be considered the beginning of Atalaia Beach, but a bit wilder. It is well developed, with plenty of bars and restaurants by the beach.
