Fortaleza

The capital of Ceará has a little of everything. In addition to its countless gorgeous beaches, Fortaleza has fascinating culture, rich local cuisine, wonderful handicrafts, and beautiful architecture. It truly is an unforgettable destination.

Fortaleza, the capital city in Ceará State, is located in the Brazilian Northeast Region. Local beaches account for 30 km of the state’s coastline. The city also offers visitors a variety of wonderful leisure options, such as museums, theaters, handicraft markets, delicious local cuisine, and vibrant nightlife.

There are several restaurants on the beachfront along Beira-Mar Avenue that serve typical food, especially seafood dishes. There is also a great handicrafts market where you can find a variety of items, such as leather goods, costume jewelry, clothes, and food. It is definitely the place to experience the genuine friendliness of the local people.

Iracema Beach

At the far end of Beira-Mar Avenue, visitors will find the Fortaleza Fish Market, where it is possible to buy fresh fish, shrimp, and many other types of seafood. Customers can go home as soon as they buy what they want or, if they are hungry, there are a few stalls at the back of the market where they can have some delicious stir-fried seafood right there and then. It’s also a nice place to enjoy the beautiful sunset.

Iracema Beach is very close by. It is a stunning area of the city where culture is thriving. Tourists will find movie theaters, a planetarium, and the city’s Museum of Contemporary Art at the Dragão do Mar Center of Culture and Arts, one of the most important cultural centers in the state. In the evenings, Iracema is a lively place where there are several bars, nightclubs, and live music.

Futuro beach is one of the busiest and most popular beaches in Fortaleza. Visitors can enjoy several different musical attractions, as well as peculiar decorations and typical local cuisine. There are usually more people during the day, but evenings are also fun. On Thursday evenings, for example, they have a Crab Festival. Local restaurants serve a lot of crab meat to go with the ice-cold drinks and live music.

Porto das Dunas Beach, located in Aquiraz, offers visitors breathtaking landscapes, white-sand beaches, and imposing dunes. It is also home to the famous Beach Park, a water park complex that includes three resorts and a hotel. In the opposite direction, going north from Fortaleza, lies the municipality of Caucaia, from which tourists can make their way to the beautiful beaches of Icaraí and Cumbuco.

Adventure lovers will find that wind conditions along the entire coast are ideal for water sports such as sailing and kitesurfing. The lay of the land, on the other hand, is great for sports such as trekking and rally racing.

If you are looking for an original souvenir of the city to take home, you should definitely visit the Central Market and check out all of the handicraft stores there.
