The main local attractions include Pico do Papagaio (Parrot Peak), a prominent hill with a panoramic view of the island, Cachoeira da Feiticeira (Witch Waterfall), a very popular attraction with abseilers, Farol dos Castelhanos (Castelhanos Lighthouse), one of the oldest on the Brazilian coast, Acaiá Cave, where there is amazing fluorescence when the sunlight reaches the water in the underground chamber, Lagoa Verde (Green Lagoon), a swimming hole with transparent waters and lots of colorful fish, Lagoa Azul (Blue Lagoon), a small bay where divers can see several species of fish, molluscs, and coral reefs, and Lopes Mendes Beach, voted one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in Brazil on TripAdvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Awards 2014.
Canoeists who visit Ilha Grande will experience the unique natural beauty of the local crystal-clear seas. They will encounter places around the island where others cannot reach on foot. We do, however, recommend the presence of a guide to accompany visitors on their canoeing adventure.
There are different types of accommodations and infrastructure all around the island. Praia do Aventureiro (Adventurer’s Beach), a beach with warm clear water, is home to most of the campsites on the island. Vila do Abraão, on the other hand, is the main village on the island, and offers visitors a choice of inns and restaurants.
If you are a beach lover, Ilha Grande will certainly be an unforgettable destination for you. But, besides enjoying the beaches, visitors will also be able to experience local rivers, lakes, waterfalls, mangroves, and trails. A trip to Ilha Grande will definitely include lots of unique experiences and incredible landscapes.
