Brasília
Renowned for inheriting different cultural traits from all the regions in the country, the Brazilian Federal Capital has been strengthening its gastronomic scene with the best flavors from Brazil and from around the world.
Located in the heart of Brazil, Brasília is not only the cradle of the national political scene, but also one of the main tourist destinations in the country. Its bold architecture and fascinating history attract a large number of tourists every year. And local cuisine is yet another attraction in the “small square,” as it is called by local residents.
The influence of the cuisine from neighboring state Goiás in Brasilia is undeniable. However, it does not only happen with Goiás. The Federal Capital has been influenced by the cultures of several Brazilian states due to the mass migration that took place during its early years, starting after the city’s inauguration in 1960. Therefore, Brasília has incorporated characteristics from all the regions in the country.

Churrasco
Local cuisine was developed using a combination of indigenous, European, African, and typical Brazilian flavors. But do not be fooled into thinking that the local gastronomic experience does not have its own identity. Despite having incorporated dishes from all over the country, the local versions of these dishes have peculiarities that are found only in the city.
Local menus include options that appeal to everyone, from the simplest to the most sophisticated dishes. Among the most traditional dishes in the city you will find barbecue, tilapia fillets, buchada de bode (goat viscera), and rice with pequi (souari nut), a typical cerrado fruit. Another popular local dish is called Chico Angu, made with chicken and okra, and served with a side of Brazilian polenta.
A visit to Brasília is an opportunity to learn a little bit of each place in Brazil, but with a special touch. Whether visitors choose to enjoy the local food at the numerous bars around the city or at luxurious restaurants on the lakefront of Paranoá Lake, good food and entertainment are guaranteed. You should definitely plan your next trip to Brasilia and come enjoy everything that the Brazilian capital has to offer!
