Florianópolis

Floripa, as the city is commonly called, is a destination that provides all its visitors with an incredible connection with the sea, which plays an important role in the city’s lifestyle. There are more than 40 beaches around the island, where you can enjoy activities such as paragliding, diving, and surfing. You just can’t help falling in love with Florianópolis.

The city is divided into two parts: a coastal island and a small continental peninsula. It is this unique geography that makes Florianópolis one of the main beach destinations in Brazil. Part of the city is an environmental protection area that includes beaches surrounded by native Atlantic-Forest-covered hills.

Beach in Florianópolis

There are several different types of beaches in Florianópolis. Some, including Joaquina and Praia Mole, are perfect for those who enjoy water sports such as surfing, kite surfing, and sailing. Others, such as Daniela Beach, are not so busy and the sea is calmer, making them great places to spend the day with the whole family. There are beaches, such as Campeche Beach, which provides visitors with stunning views and the possibility to visit an ecological sanctuary and archeological site added to the National Heritage List by the National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage (IPHAN). Last but not least, the list also includes the most popular beaches on the island, such as Jurerê Internacional, located in a neighborhood that has sophisticated restaurants and lively nightlife, which attracts all the young people in the region.

Read on to learn more about the beaches on this amazing island:

Joaquina Beach
Joaquina Beach is considered a surfers’ paradise due to its great waves, and it regularly hosts national and international surfing competitions. As it is located in such a beautiful setting, the beach is the ideal place to watch the sunrise.

Moçambique Beach
Moçambique is a secluded beach located in an environmental reserve, and it is very popular with surfers. It is completely surrounded by nature and, therefore, a little distant from hotels, bars, and restaurants. The beach is a great option for visitors who want to get away from the hustle and bustle, and just enjoy nature.

Campeche Beach
Campeche Beach has a long stretch of white sand, and waves are good on most days. It’s a great option for visitors who don’t want to face traffic to get to the north side and east side of the island. A tour to Campeche Island is available to visitors at the beach.

Jurerê Beach
The beach has a narrow strip of sand and the local sea is very calm. There are many restaurants in the region and plenty of stalls on the beach from which visitors can rent lounge chairs, and get drinks and snacks. There are plenty of excellent accommodation options nearby.

Canasvieiras Beach
Without a doubt, this is one of the busiest beaches on the island. Both tourists and locals just love its warm, calm waters. The beach is the ideal place to spend the day with family and friends.

If you can spare a few more days, some other beach towns in the state of Santa Catarina are totally worth your while. The city of Bombinhas, for example, has over 35 beaches with crystal-clear waters. And Balneário de Camboriú has a very lively nightlife in addition to its beautiful beaches.
