Beach in Barra neiborhood, in Salvador
Porto da Barra
Porto da Barra Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Salvador. Close to several hotels, bars, and restaurants, it is a favorite among tourists. With a shoreline that extends for about 600 meters, the beach has a privileged view of All Saints Bay. Its waters are clean and crystal-clear, the sea is perfect for swimming, and the sunset is stunning from there. Activities on the sand include beach paddleball, peteca (a traditional sport in Brazil played with a “hand shuttlecock”), and footvolley. Water activities include kayaking, Hawaiian outrigger canoeing, and stand-up paddling.
Farol da Barra
This beach is home to one of the greatest icons in Salvador: Farol da Barra (Barra Lighthouse). Natural pools are formed around it at low tide, which is ideal if you want to enjoy a sunny day. The beachfront area is one of the city’s attractions. It is always very busy with lots of people practicing physical activities, and there are several restaurants and kiosks. A good option is to visit the Nautical Museum of Bahia, located in the fort on which the lighthouse stands. It is a great location to enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets in the city.
Jaguaribe
This is the favorite beach among surfers. With big waves and strong winds, it is where the main surfing schools in the city are located. There aren’t many kiosks on the beach, but it has a long strip of sand, which is ideal to play footvolley. There is a jogging path as well as a bike path along the beach promenade, making it the perfect place for anyone who enjoys exercising at the end of the day.
Itapuã
Itapuã Beach, immortalized by Brazilian poet Vinícius de Moraes in his verses, has calm emerald-green waters. Due to rocks along the beach, natural pools are formed at low tide. They are perfect for a dip on a sunny day. Visitors will have the opportunity to see Itapuã Lighthouse, one of the city’s icons, up close. And they should definitely take the opportunity to enjoy the local cuisine at the many bars and kiosks on the beachfront.
Flamengo
Far from downtown Salvador, Flamengo Beach is the northernmost beach in the capital. It has calm crystal-clear waters, lots of coconut trees, and it’s an excellent place to practice sports. The beach has good infrastructure that includes tables, chairs, loungers, showers, and a playground for the children.
Stella Maris
Stella Maris Beach is located in a neighborhood that has lots of resorts and vacation homes. Many natural pools are formed during low tide, and the beach is a gorgeous setting that includes dunes, coconut trees, and an extensive waterfront. Some spots along the beach have strong waves that are ideal for surfing.
All Saints Bay also includes 3 islands that must be visited during your stay in Salvador. They are Itaparica Island, Maré Island, and Frades Island, where the Ponta de Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe Beach is located.
